Motivation is key for an entrepreneur. The exhaustive nature of the “venture” is such that any help in maintaining a high level of motivation, or creating some sort of a pull-up against all the downs one faces, can be very helpful. Speaking from personal experience, managing my ventures always required a healthy and regular dose of motivation.
Everybody has their own source of motivation. Some find it in spirituality, some in relationships and some in work. One of my reliable sources of motivation is music. Should I say GOOD music.
So, here is a list I have drawn, of some of the songs in English language, which help me jump-start my motivation, when I’m experiencing an “entrepreneurial low”.
An entrepreneur has a very strong streak of independence in him/her, and you will notice the same in the words of these songs.
This list may not make sense to some, as different people have different meanings associated with the same song. Keep an open mind and understand that this is MY list. Hence, made up of songs from music that I listen to… and yes, it has a rockish tilt. I’m deliberately presenting a small list, and will keep on adding to it, with time.
1) I won’t back down – Johnny Cash
2) Unthought Known – Pearl Jam
“Dream the dreams of other men
You’ll be no one’s rival
Dream the dreams of others then
You will be no one’s rival”
3) Watershed – Indigo Girls
“And they say only milk and honey’s gonna make your soul satisfied!
Well I better learn how to swim
Cause the crossing is chilly and wide.”
4) My wave – Soundgarden
5) Roll with the Changes – REO Speedwagon
“So if you’re tired of the
Same old story
Turn some pages
I’ll be here when you are ready
To roll with the changes”
6) Seven Nation Army – The White Stripes
7) I’m Bigger than My Body – John Mayer
8) Drive – Incubus
9) Walk Believer Walk – The Black Crowes
10) Inside of Me – 3 Doors Down
To be continued…
